RIVERBED were created in mid-2012 by the band’s singer, Apostolis Liapis, an active musician in various bands of the Athens music scene. who was then looking to record and perform his own material.
RIVERBED’s first line-up included Nick Mihailidis (bass), Thanos Laitsas and Konstantinos Borek (guitars), Ilias Laitsas (drums) and Makis Karahoutis (keyboards). This line-up recorded Riverbed’s first album, Face of Reality, which was released in February 2014 by Cobalt Music.
The band’s love for the vitange 1970s sound was evident in Face of Reality, along with clear indie and art rock influences. The album tracks I believe, Running Down and Face of Reality were particularly welcomed by the audience.
Face of Reality sold very well and featured high on the list of music retailer chain stores Public (albums with most sales) for many weeks. It also peaked at no. 9 on the official and reliable IFPI-CYTA record sales charts for Greece.
Following the release of the album, owing to increasing professional commitments, the guitarist duo and the drummer departed and were replaced by Alexandros Getis (guitar) and Minas Vasilakis (drums). The new 5-member line-up RIVERBED promoted Face of Reality on stage, appearing frequently in popular and historical venues of Athens (including Six D.O.G.S, K44, Double Trouble, After Dark, Floral, Ten, Albadoor). They also created inspirational video clips for three of the band’s songs (Running Down, Face of Reality, As A Friend).
Mid-2014 marked a short period of experimentation as regards the line-up and the band’s musical direction. RIVERBED’s current 4-member line-up was created with the arrival of Yannis Zikos (guitars) and Stefanos Ioannidis (drums). With Nick Mihailidis still on bass guitar, Apostolis Liapis took over keyboards as well.
Determined to create fresh and more powerful material, RIVERBED focused on composing new material with a “harder” sound – while maintaining their love for classic, bluesy and art rock – while appearing selectively on several shows, one of which included the successful charity festival Tris & o Cookos in Kiato Korinthias.
For the later part of 2015 and first few months of '16, RIVERBED have been locked away in the studio , composing and recording their second album "One Take", due to be released later this year.
